How Do I Become a Christian?

How do I become a Christian?

Respond!

“Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.” (Romans 10:13)

God is the author of Salvation, He has made the way for you to be in relationship with Himself through Christ's death on the cross and His resurrection from the dead. He is reaching out to you right now and by responding in the manner below, you can enter into that relationship with God, have your sins forgiven, learn to walk in the manner God desires and face eternity with the assurance of eternal life.

Repent!

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” ( 1 John 1:9:)

Sin is what separated us from God. But Jesus took the punishment of our sin upon Himself on the cross and offers forgiveness to those who repent(acknowledge and turn from sin) and trust Him for salvation (to be saved from the penalty, power and eventual presence of sin in eternity).

Believe!

“The time promised by God has come at last!” he announced. “The Kingdom of God is near! Repent of your sins and believe the Good News!” -Jesus (Mark 1:15)

To believe is to trust in Christ and not ourselves or anything else to save us or keep us in the love and favor of God. Believing in Jesus is trusting in His word about what is true about Himself, us and our purpose in this world. To believe is to actively pursue Him and devote ourselves to loving Him and serving Him with our whole selves. It's a posture of trust that we are accepted and loved and we live our lives in the light of that truth.

If you understand and believe these things to be true, we encourage you to talk to God in prayer and invite Him to be your savior, to forgive your sins, to come live in you by His Holy Spirit and commit to Him your life by these words and the action of being baptized and serving Him with all your heart, soul, mind and strength with the power He gives you. There is no magical formula, it's a call to follow Him and become more like Him day to day for the rest of your life.

Be Baptized!

“Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.” (Acts 2:38, 39:)

Being baptized in water is a public act, representing a private understanding and commitment of what it means to be a follower of Jesus. The powerful symbol of being 'buried and raised' with Christ is an acknowledgment that your old life is gone and by the power of the Holy Spirit and the truth of God's word, you will live a life of growing maturity for the glory of God.
